Mapleton taxes due Sept. 25, Nov. 27

MAPLETON  – Residents here will need to pay the next instalments of their property tax bills by Sept. 25 and Nov. 27.

The township’s tax rate bylaw for 2025 was approved by council on May 13.

Tax bills will include portions from the Township of Mapleton, the County of Wellington and the local school boards.

Taxes will raise a total of just over $29 million, with $10.6 million going to the township, about $14.4 million going to the county and about $4 million going to the school boards.

Of the $10.6 million going to the township, “residential properties count for 60 per cent of those taxes that are collected, farm properties account for 21% and commercial/industrial is around 16%, said chief financial officer Patrick Kelly.

“The remaining 3% is for pipelines and other tax classes,” he added.

Now that the tax bylaw has been approved, township staff will begin generating tax bills to send out during the second week of July, Kelly said.

Interim tax bills were issued earlier this year and based on 50% of the previous year’s taxes, states a report.

Where applicable, final tax bills may include unpaid and overdue water and sewer charges, as well as tile drain loan payments (principal and interest), the report notes.

Payments can be made by cash, cheque or debit at the municipal office or by cheque mailed to P.O. Box 160, Drayton, Ontario, N0G 1P0.

Late payments will be charged 1.25% per month.
