Mapleton parks committee wants three more members

It appears the township’s parks, recreation and culture committee here could be growing by 33%.

On Feb. 9, council discussed a committee recommendation to add up to three more members to the committee.

Current members include councillors Jim Curry and Mike Downey, staff members Larry Lynch, Sandra Good, and Jim Grose and four members of the community.

Councillor Bruce Whale asked if the purpose of adding up to three more members is simply to have more ideas or to ensure the committee has members from every area of the township.

Curry replied regional representation is a part of it and the committee meeting minutes of Jan. 18 note there are “already five people in the township” who want to be on the committee.

Mayor John Green said the township would have to advertise and there’s no way to force someone to join a committee based on their place of residence.

Council voted unanimously to approve the committee recommendation to add up to three more members.
