Mapleton closing facilities as province moves to modified step-two protocols

MAPLETON – The township has closed all municipally-owned facilities in response to new provincial pandemic restrictions.

On Jan. 3, in response to recent trends in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, the Ontario government announced a temporary move into a modified version of Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopen Ontario, effective Jan. 5.

“In response to this announcement, effective [Jan. 5], the Township of Mapleton will be closing all township owned facilities including all community centres and the PMD Arena until further notice,” states a Jan. 3 press release from the municipality.

“We continue to praise the community of Mapleton on their cooperation and patience during such unprecedented times.”

The release adds, “We want you all to know we are all in this fight against COVID-19 together.

“Please remember to remain diligent and follow all public health measures, continue to support our local businesses and to check in on family members virtually.”

The Mapleton administrative office remains closed to the public. Staff can be contacted through email and through the municipal phone system at 519-638-3313.

“The Township of Mapleton strongly encourages residents to get vaccinated as this is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones,” the release states.
