Mapleton building department slows down, but still busier than usual
MAPLETON – It has been a busy year for the Mapleton building department.
But things started to slow down a little in July, when 35 permits were issued and the revenue totalled $46,455, just slightly exceeding the township’s three-year average for the month ($44,068).
(The average number of permits issued over the last three Julys was 32.)
That brings the year-to-date revenue up to $457,466, compared with the historical average of $355,752. July permits included 16 agricultural permits, five septic systems, four temporary tents, three decks, one accessory dwelling unit, one pool and one demolition.
Acting chief building official Mike Walsh said while things are “right on average for our usual totals, it’s a bit slower than we would like.
“But we are still far outpacing our expected yearly revenue so we are having a good year in the building department still,” Walsh told council on Aug. 11, after presenting the building department’s monthly report.
Year-to-date, the township has issued 198 permits, compared with a historical average of 189 over the last three years.
