Mapleton appoints Bigrigg interim fire chief

MAPLETON – Brad Bigrigg has been named interim fire chief for Mapleton Fire Rescue.

Bigrigg, currently a deputy chief with Puslinch Fire and Rescue, was officially appointed interim chief through a bylaw passed at the Aug. 8 Mapleton council meeting.

However township CAO Manny Baron told the Advertiser Bigrigg has been on the job since Aug. 1.

Baron said no firm timeline has been established to permanently replace former Fire Chief Rick Richardson, who retired on July 14 after 39 years with the local fire service.

Baron said the appointment of an interim chief “gives us some breathing room” and he anticipates finalizing a replacement within six months.

Bigrigg, who has about 40 years of fire service experience, was previously named interim chief for the Puslinch fire department in August 2021, when former chief Luis Gomes retired.

Bigrigg held the position until June of 2022, when Tom Mulvey was named fire chief for both Centre Wellington and Puslinch fire services.
