Local Tim Hortons outlets part of record-breaking cookie campaign

Area stores raise $136,000 for nutrition programs

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Tim Hortons restaurant owners and millions of generous Canadians combined to break a new Smile Cookie record by raising $15 million for local charities across the country. 

In Wellington and Guelph, participating local Tim Hortons restaurant owners and guests helped raise $136,000 this year to support the Children’s Foundation Food and Friends Program. 

“These funds help tens of thousands of local students to have access to nutritious food through student nutrition programs,” states a press release from the foundation.

“These extraordinary donations from the Smile Cookie campaign will assist the Food and Friends Programs cope with the rising costs of food,” stated program director Anita Macfarlane. 

“An enormous thank-you to the generous community, volunteers who helped decorate the cookies and the restaurant owners and staff who contributed to the success of this year’s campaign.” 

Guelph Tim Hortons owner Neil Hudman stated, “Thanks to the Children’s Foundation for taking the funds from Smile Cookie and putting them in the right place. It’s good to know that local students will be fed a healthy meal.”
