Local groups receive Ontario 150 grants

Seven area municipalities and organizations will receive more than $600,000 in grants recently announced through the Ontario 150 Community Capital Program.

Tourism, culture and sport minister Eleanor McMahon made the announcement on Jan. 31. The program celebrates the province’s 150th anniversary.

The Township of Mapleton received the largest of the local grants – $249,800 for accessibility and interior upgrades to the Maryborough Community Centre.

Centre Wellington will receive $230,000 to renovate the historic Fergus Grand Theatre’s entrance and lobby and make other accessibility upgrades.

Other grants include:

– $38,800 for the Elora Centre for the Arts to install a new boiler, renovate a clean-up space, and add a new hanging system;

– $5,600 to the Hillside Festival to renovate the outdoor Hillside Community Stage to prevent moisture damage to equipment;

– $15,000 to the Town of Minto to improve accessibility to the Harriston-Minto Community Complex by installing new doors;

– $66,000 to the Township of Wellington North to renovate, upgrade and install accessible playground equipment and washroom facilities at Murphy Park; and

– $37,500 to the Credit Valley Conservation to restore the historic Mack Fountain at Belfountain Conservation Area.
