Local businesses urged to join food waste reduction program

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local businesses are being invited to join Guelph-Wellington’s Collective Food Rescue and Waste Diversion Pilot.

Cutting down food waste is a key solution to tackling the climate crisis, officials with the pilot program note.

“Our program makes it easy and affordable for businesses and institutions to cut harmful climate emissions by diverting food waste from our local landfill through organics collection and food donation,” officials state.

Participants in the pilot have already diverted over 300 tonnes of food waste, cutting climate emissions equivalent to taking 1,000 cars off the road for a year. Any business located between Guelph and Arthur can join neighbouring businesses and institutions that are taking action.

Test your internet

The County of Wellington is asking businesses and households to test their internet connectivity speed.

Residents are asked to perform the test using the Canadian Internet Registration Authority’s Speed Test at wellington.ca/internet.

“This anonymous feedback helps improve rural broadband connection by demonstrating where future infrastructure is needed,” county officials state.
