Lions raise $5,270 for mental health initiatives

Funds support HOPE

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Lions Club is thanking the community for its support of the club’s March 29 food gift card raffle for mental health.

“We are pleased to announce the $5,270 proceeds were donated to The Mount Forest Health Team $4,270; Healthy Opportunities Proomoting Empowerment (HOPE) $500; and WES for Youth $500,”  officials stated.

Lions President George Laurencic presented a cheque for the proceeds to Elsa Mann, team lead with the Rural Wellington Community Team.

“This financial support will assist us to access services and assessments for community members that would otherwise not be able to afford them,” said Laurencic.

“Part of that will be through a new pilot program called ‘Social Prescribing’ which will connect patients with activities and workshops that are proven to make a positive impact in mental health.

“We are so thankful for the support of the Lions in helping us to carry out this work.”

Lighthouse Festival

The Hope Committee of Wellington North and Minto will utilize the support received from the Lions, for a new festival happening this fall.

The Lighthouse Festival will shine a light on wellness by introducing residents to activities in the community that are low or no cost and promote wellness, both physically and mentally.
