Wants bigger sportsplex

Dear Editor:

I am a Grade 8 student from John Black Public School. I think that Fergus requires a larger sportsplex with more features.

Fergus is such a small town but our athletic status is large; there are many hockey, ringette, soccer, rugby and lacrosse teams here. The Fergus sportsplex needs another ice surface so the organizations for the hockey, ringette and lacrosse teams can hold tournaments and games. Also Pad B in the sportsplex needs a bigger seating area.

Finally, I think that the sportsplex needs gender rooms for co-ed teams. I am a member of a co-ed lacrosse team and I always have to book my own room, which takes away from other teams’ space.

Don’t you think that with the extra space and room for training that it will have a positive effect on our teams?

If you compare the West End sportsplex in Guelph to the Fergus sportsplex there is a large difference.

The ice surface is larger than our sportsplex, also the seating arrangement in West End is much bigger, which is why many tournaments are held there.

If we held more tournaments here some of the benefits would go to local businesses. Please consider a larger sportsplex for the better of all the sports teams.

Rylee Jefferson,

Fergus
