‘Unjust decision’

Dear Editor:

RE: The results of a recent Advertiser poll – “Is a Wellington Road bypass around Fergus a good idea?” Yes – 64%, No – 36%.

I’m encouraged by the positive response from the citizens of Fergus as they realized the travesty and unjust decision by their council to transfer unwanted, even painful, truck traffic from their community to another.

We moved to Alma over 40 years ago because of its bucolic setting; we left our kitchen windows open and walked our children to school. That’s off the table now and our numerous parks and outdoor facilities will be impacted by the disruptive flow of truck traffic conveniently re-routed away from Fergus.

I suggest the council revisit their decision on this matter and seek further consultation to resolve this problem.

There are worse and greater pandemic diseases than COVID-19: indifference to your neighbour. And there is no vaccine for that.
