Taxes ‘squandered’

Dear Editor:

The Town of Erin council and administration seriously underestimate the intelligence of the people of Erin.

I’m sure most people have come to the realization that the refusal to release the requested amount of severance paid to terminated employees is because the actual amount will upset taxpayers/voters.

It is not a matter of the info not being available, because if you recall, the mayor clearly stated he would not release this information. So if they don’t want to tell us, let’s make an educated guess: was it $1 million? $3 million? More or less?

It causes me to wonder where else our tax dollars are being squandered and what other important information have the town administrators decided we don’t need to be aware of? Guess there’s no point in asking.

Another thought: is it a coincidence that a communications officer position was recently created and filled by the town administration? Another $75,000+ wasted annually? How convenient that the mayor and CAO no longer have to account for their actions.

I would like to hear from our councillors about where they stand on this issue and if they believe taxpayers have a right to know this information.
