‘Survival of our planet’

Dear Editor:

An open letter to Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece.

I’m writing to you as a constituent, with extreme concern over the Conservative government’s policies regarding the preservation and regeneration of our environment.

As you know, Ontario (and Alberta) were awarded a grade of F by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society for their lack of management of our precious resources that will negatively effect our future and the very survival of our planet.

With the severe heat waves and the tragic effects of global warming becoming more and more evident, this is a matter that needs immediate rethinking, positive publicity, and reinvention by the people we have elected.

We have placed you in a position of power but also in a position of responsibility. This is not about winning elections or reducing taxes. This is about the survival of our children, our way of life, our legacy for future generations.

This is about working together to create a mindset and a world that is not just sustainable, but that can regenerate and heal the mistakes of the past.

I look to you to pass this message on and to think, with care, respect and indigenous wisdom, what positive – or negative effects your policies will have seven generations in the future.

Become the leaders we hoped you would be.

Wendy Agnew,
Wellington North
