‘Spending public money’

Dear Editor:

RE: Town ‘failed to conduct reasonable search’ in response to FOI request, March 14.

I opened the March 21 Advertiser expecting to read community feedback regarding last week’s article on the IPC decision on the Advertiser’s Freedom of Information request for severance details to the town or Erin.

There was nothing! I for one am elated with this decision and plan on following this story to its conclusion. I commend the Advertiser for pursuing this request. The town must have this information. Employers can not destroy payroll information, particularly records as recent as 2012 to 2017.

The Mayor practically stated he had the information when saying he would not provide the information unless forced to do so.

Obviously the numbers are well above the average for 2012 to 2017. What about 2018? Not many familiar faces in the town office these days.

I think our mayor and council need a reminder of exactly whose money they are throwing around and who they are accountable to.

I challenge all other Erin and Hillsburgh residents to send a reminder to our mayor and council that they are spending public money and the public has a right to know how responsibly or irresponsibly it’s being spent.
