‘Sensational’ year

Dear Editor:

Sensational Elora – Festival of the Senses celebrated our 10th anniversary this year.

In recent weeks, we have presented cheques to the Centre Wellington Food Bank ($9,881) and CWDHS breakfast program (Wake-Up Centre Wellington – $1,000), bringing our total over our first 10 years to over $120,000 to combat hunger in Centre Wellington.

Our small working board continues to present a number of events that we have been doing for years: Film On A Plate (indoor and outdoor), Fabulous Fergus Pub Night, Pumpkin Day, Empty Bowls and Sensational Soup-Off.

In recent years, we have added Sensational Jazz at Elora Centre for the Arts (to raise money for the centre), Monster March and, most recently, we purchased the monster menagerie created by Tim Murton (known as the Twilight Zoo) and we manage the maintenance of the Zoo and installation throughout Elora and we coordinate the activities of Monster Month.

We couldn’t do this without the support of our community. From our event sponsors, to the potters who donate their handmade bowls, to the soup-makers who compete in Soup-Off, to the volunteers who help with monster repair and installation, to CW Rotary for helping with Soup-Off and Empty Bowls sales, to the Elora Acoustic Cafe musicians who donate their talents for Soup-Off and the many other volunteers who help with all of our events, on behalf of our board, thank you sincerely for our first 10 years.

We do wish to continue with our mission and to do so, we need more board members and volunteers. Working with our board, the reward of knowing you are making a contribution to our community far surpasses the effort required.
