Search for the truth

Dear Editor:

RE: Decide for yourself, March 28.

There’s a concise discussion of medieval warming versus current temperatures on YouTube that will help decide if we are in a crisis.

I looked at numerous articles on medieval warming and several said there was no evidence for global warming in that time period, although the temperature in the northern hemisphere may have been as high as 1.2C, whereas in 2016 mean annual ground temperature was 2C, an increase of 66%.

Sceptics claim the rise is due to increased energy from the sun, but that has increased by only 0.2% at most (1364 to 1366 watts/square metre). That’s hardly enough to explain the temperature increase.

Mr. Brunsveld mentioned The Science and Public Policy Institute (SPPI), which is a United States public policy organization that promotes climate change denial.

The SPPI funded a film Apocalypse? No! that intended to show errors in the Al Gore documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. They released a 45-page paper in 2009 in the Climatic Research (hacked) email controversy (“Climategate”) titled Climategate: Caught Green-Handed!: Cold facts about the hot topic of global temperature change after the Climategate scandal, which concluded that global warming is a myth.

The SPPI is operated by The Frontiers of Freedom Foundation, Inc., a policy organization founded in 1996 by former Senator Malcolm Wallop, a Wyoming Republican. On its website, SPPI does not detail its funding sources. In 2002, the foundation had a budget of $700,000, with fossil-fuel company Exxon Mobil donating $230,000 of that sum.

It took less than two minutes to “Google” these facts. Yes readers, keep an open mind, and decide for yourself.
