‘Heads in the sand’?

Dear Editor:

Re: Climate change letters in the Advertiser on Feb. 21 and 28.

As a mother, great grandmother, and a longtime environmentalist, I’m pleased to see interest by the editors and letter writers about climate change.

I’m not a climate change wise guy or gal, as suggested by a letter-writer.  My family and I have merely learned the facts, some of which are plain to see.

Ice in our arctic and in the glaciers is melting faster than formerly. Signs of climate warming have been seen, and warnings announced for well over two decades.

Each of us can take steps to help counter environmental harm. We can walk, cycle, and use public transit, in-city and intercity, and we can carpool.  We can pressure political leaders to finance public transit more.

As one letter-writer said “this is a matter of life and death for our children and grandchildren.”

Let us not put our heads in the sand.

Helen Hansen,
