Gardens gratitude

Dear Editor:

I wish to acknowledge the efforts of the Fergus Horticultural Society regarding the beautification they provide with the flowers they plant each year.

A public expression of gratitude to these wonderful volunteers is long overdue. I offer my own sincere thanks with the following poem, entitled We Dig the Diggers.

On Tuesday mornings at ten o’clock, The “diggers” meet to sip ‘n’ talk.

The gardeners rest at the Fountainhead, After weeding and tending their flower bed.

Fergus is painted with colors so bright. Town folk and visitors love the visual delight.

So let’s tip our hats to these volunteers, Who’ve been digging and planting so many years.

They work very hard, not minding their toil. The reward is seen by what blooms in the soil.

We dig what you do, horticultural society. Thanks for the flowers – and the splendid variety!

Sandra Owen,

Fergus
