Development issues

Dear Editor:

With all the new building and developments going into Fergus, bringing new tax revenue and people spending money, maybe it is time for the town to take care of its existing taxpayers.

The town decided to shut down all private wells and put everyone on town water. But that is where they stopped. Now the properties that are not on town sewers are dumping chlorinated water into a system that requires bacteria to function efficiently or at all for that matter. These systems are now failing and with the new septic system requirements most properties cannot replace their septic beds with traditional gravity systems, but rather a self-contained treatment system that is usually double what it would cost to connect to the town.

We pay our taxes the same as the new homes but only seem to get half the services. Perhaps the township would like to pay for the new septic systems for these residents instead of putting in sewers?

Sounds fair to me.

Fergus
