Climate comes first

Dear Editor:

Given the extreme and deadly weather “events” this summer in western Canada and around the world, it was actually pretty refreshing to see the Conservative Party’s new slogan on MP Michael Chong’s re-election signs: “Secure the future.”

Finally, the Conservatives seem to “get” that without immediate and far reaching action on the climate crisis, there will be no secure future for anyone, and especially not our children and grandkids.

But hold on! Turns out, seeing Mr. Chong’s ads in the Advertiser, that “secure the future” doesn’t even mention climate. Instead it focuses on securing the economy, mental health, accountability, jobs and stockpiling essential pandemic-related products – all good, but without a stable climate, everything else will be at grave risk.
