CLIFFORD – Perfect weather, colourful kites in the sky and an overwhelming sense of community spirit made the inaugural Kites in Clifford a success on May 30, officials say.

Hosted by Clifford Connects in partnership with the Minto and District Lions Club, the free family-friendly event welcomed more than 2,500 visitors throughout the day, making it the largest event ever organized by Clifford Connects, officials stated in a news release.

Visitors travelled from across Ontario — including Owen Sound, Waterloo, Toronto and numerous communities throughout midwestern Ontario — to experience giant kite displays, artisan vendors, food trucks, family activities and the unique atmosphere of the Clifford community.

“It was truly an amazing turnout, and it’s great to see so much community spirit,” said Clifford Connects chair Jennifer Gibson.

Throughout the day, Clifford Rotary Park was filled with families, friends, neighbours and visitors taking in the kite displays, manned by a team of kite flyers, including organizers of Kites in the Field in Lucknow, Murray and Elizabeth Irvin.

The news release added attendees shared positive feedback following the event, describing the day as “awesome,” “a blast,” and “a wonderful day with such beautiful kites.”

One visitor said: “My first time ever in Clifford. I’ll be back. What a great community.” Another said: “Thanks for creating memories to last a lifetime.”

The success of Kites in Clifford was made possible through the efforts of individuals and organizations who worked together to bring the event to life, officials state.

Clifford Connects and the Minto and District Lions Club extended appreciation to sponsors, vendors, kite flyers, entertainers, volunteers, community partners, Minto staff and all who attended.

Their support, dedication  and enthusiasm helped transform a new event concept into a memorable community celebration, officials stated.

As photos and memories continue to be shared online, organizers encourage attendees to tag Clifford Connects on Facebook and Instagram, and use the hashtag #KitesInClifford.

Following the success of the inaugural event, Clifford Connects is looking ahead to future community celebrations, including the Clifford Carnival Celebration on July 11.
