Kinette Club of Drayton set to upgrade new park on John Street
Sensory play feature will increase 'accessible and interactive options'
DRAYTON – The Kinette Club here is looking to upgrade its newly constructed park.
Club members have secured funding to add fully rubberized turf and a sensory ground play feature to the new park at 51 John St., which opened September 2025.
The Kinette Club replaced the previously dilapidated structure for $30,000 – supported by $10,000 from Mapleton.
The sensory play feature will increase “accessible and interactive options without needing to expand the current footprint of the park,” stated a letter to council from the Kinette Club of Drayton.
“Rubberized turf will not only make the current park significantly more accessible and inclusive,” the letter states, but “will also improve the safety of the park.
“The current wood chips are a great option but do require upkeep to maintain the required thickness for safety standards. The rubberized surface is the optimum choice for fall protection up to 10 feet.”

Club representative Sara Dineen delegated during council’s June 9 meeting to request township’s permission to enhance the park, and council supported the plan.
“It’s a fantastic addition to the park, adding accessibility and sensory items,” Mayor Gregg Davidson later told the Community News.
“It’s going to be great for the community.”
The club hopes to have the upgrades complete by February 2028.
