Judge grants peace bond, drops charges against woman in Walmart bomb threat

GUELPH – The woman charged in connection with a bomb threat at the Fergus Walmart in 2019 – which later turned out to be a hoax – was granted a peace bond by Justice Michael Wendl on April 28.

Wendl also withdrew the charges against Marjorie Anne Gray, 63, of Fergus at the sentencing hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph.

Gray, a Walmart employee, was charged in an incident that occurred on Nov. 19, 2019 when Wellington County OPP responded to a bomb threat at the Walmart on St. David Street North.

The store was evacuated and a nearby school went into lockdown.

Police later disclosed that “a note” had been found at the store indicating there was “a bomb” in the building.

The threat turned out to be a hoax and Gray first appeared in court in February last year to discuss the charges.

Under the peace bond, Gray is not to enter the store for one year. If she meets the conditions of the peace bond, her record will be cleared.
