John Nater running to continue serving riding, secure future goals

PERTH-WELLINGTON – With a federal election called for Sept. 20, Perth—Wellington Conservative Party of Canada candidate John Nater has launched his campaign for re-election.

Locally, Nater believes the campaign will focus on which party best represents Canada’s future, and which candidate voters trust to serve the riding.

“Our riding deserves someone who represents their values with a proven track record of service, hard work, and getting results,” Nater said. “People know I will continue serving with decency and integrity, and will continue working every day to earn their trust.”

To kick off the campaign, Nater stopped to buy shoes in Listowel on Friday at Knapp’s Shoes & Clothing, a family-owned business since 1962.

“I will be knocking on every door I possibly can,” Nater said. “To do that, I will need new shoes.”

Knapp’s co-owner Corey McLeod appreciated Nater’s message: “These are difficult days for many small businesses,” McLeod said. “John understands the need to support them, and I trust him to continue representing our interests.”

Nater also spoke about the national interest and the Conservative Party’s plan to secure the future.

“Canada is still grappling with the worst health and economic crisis in a generation,” Nater said. “Many local families have been devastated, and countless others have lost their livelihoods—especially those who work in small businesses, tourism and the arts, among other sectors.”

“They are our neighbours,” Nater added. “I want to put my experience back to work on their behalf. I also believe that Conservative policies will lead to a brighter future for all of us.”

Nater mentioned five key priorities of the Conservative plan to secure the future: recovering the jobs lost during the pandemic; enacting a new anti-corruption law; introducing the Canada Mental Health Action Plan; building capacity to manufacture vaccines at home; and balancing the budget over the next decade.

Since he was first elected in 2015, Nater has been known for listening to all parts of the riding and speaking up for them in Ottawa; advocating for Perth—Wellington’s fair share of federal government funding; sponsoring Bill C-219 to protect young people and those with disabilities from exploitation; demanding reliable, affordable high-speed internet for rural Canadians; and supporting farmers, farm families, and the agriculture and agri-food industry.

Nater’s campaign will be opening offices in both Perth and Wellington counties. His campaign can be reached at 519-508-2019 or by email, at johnnater@nater.ca.
