Centre Wellington's water department is undertaking a hydrant flow test on Jan. 23 beginning at 8am until approximately 10am at the hydrant located at Metcalfe Street at East Mill Street in Elora.
Due to the high water pressure in this area, there is a possibility that when residents turn on their tap, they may experience discoloured water. Staff will continue to monitor water quality as the hydrant is being used.
The discolouration is caused from iron and manganese that are naturally occurring in the groundwater. When the mains are flushed or there is a change in pressure from events such as a fire or a watermain break; the minerals that have settled in the distribution system can be stirred up.
Following the hydrant test, if discoloured water is experienced, residents are urged to turn on a cold water tap nearest to your water meter and allow the water to flush slowly for several minutes until it runs clear.
If after 24 hours, your water still appears discoloured, please contact Centre Wellington Infrastructure Services at (519) 846-9691.
