Hospital receives funding for energy efficiency projects

Ontario is providing $1.6 million to three local hospitals to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gases and redirect savings into patient care.

Guelph MPP Liz Sandals was at Guelph General Hospital on Dec. 8 to announce the Hospital Energy Efficiency Program.

This program will help hospitals save energy and encourage the use of more renewable energy technologies.

– North Wellington Health Care Corporation – Mount Forest Louise Marshall site is receiving $140,000 in funding for two energy-efficiency projects;

– Guelph General Hospital is receiving $951,000 in funding for two energy-efficiency projects; and

– St. Joseph’s Health Care – Guelph is receiving $529,000 in funding for one energy-efficiency project.

“This initiative will not only help to save energy, it will also improve our environment by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases into our communities,” said Sandals.

“These new investments will help ensure hospitals can focus on helping patients get timely access to appropriate, high-quality health care within a sustainable system,” said Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

Ontario is investing $64 million this year in the Hospital Energy Efficiency Program.
