The board of directors of Hospice Wellington has announced the organization will not be holding its annual gala fundraiser this year.
“Over the past 35 years, Hospice Wellington has transformed the Guelph and Wellington County community into a place that offers choices for individuals to spend their final days, either in the community with our caring volunteers or at our 10-bed residence,” said interim executive director Jackie Mackenzie.
“Whether in their home or ours, hospice palliative care has helped transform a fear of the unknown to a feeling of peace and comfort, providing shoulders to lean on, at just the right time.”
Hospice Wellington is refocusing its fundraising efforts in other ways, recognizing that the need in the community for palliative and bereavement care is greatly increasing. Since 45 per cent of Hospice Wellington’s annual revenue comes from the community, it is vital for Hospice Wellington’s services to continue to be sustainable for another 35 years, officials state.
“The word ‘hospice’ is heard loud and clear in our neighborhoods,” said Susan Farrelly, board chair of Hospice Wellington.
“This is due to our many supporters in the community who help us realize our vision of a vital, dynamic and sustainable organization that models the best in end-of-life care and grief support.”
Hospice Wellington is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and officials invite the community to mark the milestone by signing up for a premier e-Newsletter at www.hospicewellington.org.
Officials say Hospice Wellington is grateful to the many supporters of the gala events held in the past.
