The annual meeting and potluck dinner of the Fergus and District Horticultural Society was held on Nov. 20.
The senior centre in Fergus was decorated for the 82 members and guests.
Mayor of Center Wellington, Joanne Ross-Zuj and CAO Andy Goldie were guests at the event.
A presentation, 50 year pin and certificate of appreciation was given to member Marj Dow for over 55 years of participation in the society.
Dow still attends meetings, participates in the flower shows and chairs the photo competition.
Dow has been entering photos in the Ontario Horticulture Association annual convention for a number of years and again won this past year in Thunder Bay.
Four Members of the society were presented with President’s awards, Meg Walsh, Helen Lacroix, Darlene Tremblay and Randy McLean.
The 2014 board of directors was installed by District 7 director Jane McDonald.
The society presently has 32 members of the “diggin in the dirt” gang planting and maintaining 23 flower beds in the town of Fergus and are now having a well deserved rest until spring.
The society would like to acknowledge Claire Boeckner, Centre Wellington horticulturalist and Jeremy Machin from parks and recreation for their assistance during 2013.
