Health care Radiothon set for Oct. 17

Eleven area hospital foundations, including two in Wellington County, will participate in the 14th annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon on Oct. 17.

Mount Forest’s Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation and the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation are once again taking part in the event.

This year, the Louise Marshall Foundation has set a goal of $125,000 in support of priority operating room equipment such as scopes, monitors and related equipment.  To date, over $1.3 million from the event has helped Louise Marshall Hospital, states a press release from the foundation.

Broadcasting live on CKNX AM 920 from 9am to 5pm and on the hour on Classic Rock 94.5 FM and The One 101.7, Wingham radio station staff provides a program of interviews, live entertainment, “power hour” prizes and a draw for a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Volunteers manning phones take pledges. Callers indicate support for the hospital of their choice when they call toll free 1-877-227-3486 on Oct. 17.

Barbecue fundraiser

Meanwhile, local volunteers will be burger-flipping at the M&M Select Meats barbecue in Mount Forest (10am to 3pm). This event includes a silent auction of donated treasures from local businesses and friends enticing bidders to the back room for competitive fun.

As well, the foundation accepts financial gifts towards its Radiothon goal. CKNX  roving reporter Dan Bieman and local foundation directors will be on hand.

Ruth MacDonald of M&M Meats once again will provide her location complimentary for the Radiothon.

“I feel that this is my way to help the hospital,” she said.

The foundation expressed appreciation for CKNX, M&M Meats, and “every gift of support and all of its volunteers who make Radiothon a success each year.”

Every dollar raised for Louise Marshall Hospital stays at the local hospital, foundation officials state. Drop by the foundation and ask for a tour to see the equipment in action.
