Guelph General Hospital continues to accept holiday donations

GUELPH – The  Foundation of Guelph General Hospital (GGH) launched its seasonal fundraising campaign, spotlighting a heartfelt letter from Pam, a local community member who wrote about the “exceptional care” her husband John received at Guelph General, even though he ultimately died.

In an unexpected turn last April, John collapsed at home, prompting response from 911 and care at the emergency department.

Despite the situation, Pam found comfort in the team’s confidence that everything possible was being done for John’s care.

John suffered a ruptured aortic aneurysm but, after doing everything possible to save his life, John passed away. However, Pam has nothing but praise for the care that that they and John received.

“Everyone was so compassionate,” she said. “We couldn’t have asked for better care for him.”

Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of GGH, said she was “deeply moved” when she heard the story.

She said donations help equip the GGH team with the tools they needed to diagnose John quickly and provide emergency care.

The foundation featured Pam’s letter in its 2023 seasonal fundraising campaign, reminding folks that contributions help the hospital acquire patient care equipment needed at Guelph General Hospital.

The foundation encourages those donating to include a message to the GGH team which will be displayed at the hospital for the team.

To contribute, donations are being accepted online at gghfoundation.ca, by phone at 519-837-6422, or by cheque payable to The GGH Foundation mailed to 115 Delhi Street, Guelph, ON N1G 4J4.
