Guelph-Eramosa okays quotes for mower, tennis court

Guelph-Eramosa officials seemed pleased last week with the impending purchase of a new mower.

“This is below the estimated budget amount,” parks and recreation manager Robin Milne said of the $21,059 (plus HST) price tag for a new Kubota front deck mower.

Ed Stewart’s Equipment provided the lowest of two bids to supply the mower, with Premier Equipment coming in at $22,225 (plus HST).

“We’re pretty certain we’re getting a good price,” Milne told council.

He added the new unit is identical to another purchased by the township last year, but at a lower price. He said having two identical units makes it easier for township staff to operate and repair the mower.

The old mower will be put up for auction, and Milne noted the township usually gets a good price for its older units.

Council unanimously approved the purchase from Ed Stewart’s Equipment.

Tennis court quote

Also at last week’s meeting,  council approved a quote of $118,714 (plus HST) for the design and construction of three new tennis courts in Rockwood.

Milne said the quote from Burlington Paving Company was the only one of two received to come in under the budgeted amount of $121,800.

The other, from Court Contractors, came in significantly higher, at $128,500.

Milne said he got “great” references for Burlington Paving and he is confident the company will complete the work to the township’s satisfaction.

He reminded council that a large portion of the cost for the tennis court reconstruction will be covered by a Trillium Foundation grant, and about $10,000 of the overall bill will be covered by the local tennis club.

Council unanimously approved the quote from Burlington Paving.
