Guelph Black Heritage Society celebrates Indigenous History Month in June

GUELPH – The Guelph Black Heritage Society celebrates Indigenous History Month with a screening of Layla Staats’ Blood & Water at Heritage Hall (83 Essex St.) on June 1 in Guelph.

June is National Indigenous History Month which honours the history, heritage and diversity of Indigenous Peoples. This month also provides an opportunity to recognize the resilience of present-day Indigenous communities.

 Blood and Water is a self-narrated documentary exposing light on the modern-day impact and generational trauma from residential schools.   

Staats is Mohawk Turtle Clan from the Six Nations of the Grand River and in this film, shares her family’s journey to reclamation.  

Following the screening there will be a “talk back” with Staats hosted by Kween.

Doors open at 6:30pm and the screening begins at 7pm.
