Grant to help inform teens of agricultural jobs

MPP Liz Sandals announced the Career Education Council Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin will be receiving a grant of $77,800 over two years from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The grant is to increase the future employment options for high school youth by providing classroom presentations, workshops and conferences on opportunities for work in the agricultural industry.

Executive director of Career Education Council Lori Arsenault, said, “Through conversations with community leaders and organizations we identified that there is a growing need for skilled workers in the agricultural sector. This project will introduce students to the wealth of career opportunities that are available in agriculture from primary food production and processing to scientific research and innovation.

The youth that participate will develop an awareness and enthusiasm for careers that they have not thought about before. Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support of this project which will strengthen the local workforce and develop the skilled employees required for our growing agri-business sector.”
