Grand Valley updates community centre after gas leak last year

In March 2017, the Grand Valley and District Community Centre was evacuated as the result of a carbon monoxide leak.

Based on recommendations from an investigation into the incident, the community centre board and member municipalities authorized the installation of an advanced carbon monoxide/ammonia detection and automatic exhaust system.

The installation is now completed, the town announced on Feb. 15.

The rink exhaust system, designed and built by Kore Mechanical Inc., is equipped with sensors and an air exchange fan system. It is fully automated with alarm systems and real-time e-alerts sent to building staff.

“The board is pleased to … provide this feature … to ensure the enhanced safety of our patrons,” officials said.
