Grade 8 students attend John F. Ross”™ Tech Days

Hundreds of Grade 8 students recently received a hands-on experience in what it could be like to pursue a career in technology. On Nov. 18 and 24, John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational  Institute held its annual Technology Days.

Now in its 13th year, the event is organized by teacher Trent Bewick and run by a group of 10 tech teachers.

Approximately 500 Grade 8 students from Ross’s eight feeder schools spent half-day sessions touring the school’s manufacturing, construction, automotive, communication technology and cosmetology shops.

Students not only learned about a potential career pathway in tech, but they also had the chance to build a project and take it home that day.

Event organizers expressed hope students would receive a hands-on experience of high school possibilities available to them and that many will be encouraged to take a tech class once in high school.
