A unique group of health providers has teamed up to help make New Year’s resolutions easier to keep. On Jan. 10 the “make your change” workshop at the Guelph Youth Music Centre will help participants reflect on the past year, set resolutions and create a plan to make them a reality.
The workshop is being delivered by Three Trees Health, composed of personal trainer Jay Vandermeer, Thai massage practitioner Katherine MacKenzie and psychotherapist Linzy Bonham.
This new group brings together a variety of perspectives for support in achieving personal goals.
“Change can be hard,” says Bonham. “It’s easy for us to see what we want to change in our lives, but getting there can be difficult. With the strength of our three different perspectives, we will help people learn how to really keep their resolutions.”
Sometimes making these changes involves looking at the issue underneath the goal.
Vandermeer stated that in his experience, goals such as losing weight can be hindered when people are not aware of why they are overeating in the first place. Make Your Change will encourage people not only to set their resolutions, but to self-reflect to see what issues may be getting in the way of reaching their goals.
“Having the full picture of the situation is really helpful,” said Vandermeer.
The workshop will encourage people to identify what is important to them, what helps them to make changes, and what gets in their way.
The group agrees that helping people take time to focus on themselves for a few hours is valuable in itself.
“Taking the space to reflect on your life and where you want to go next can be powerful,” stated MacKenzie. “We’re excited to be giving people that time to reflect, as well as sharing our knowledge and some tools to help them make changes.”
The workshop will be at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, Jan. 10 from 2 to 5pm. For information, visit www.threetreeshealth.com.
