Frances Cosen celebrates 100th birthday

Centenarian was farmer and Beatty Brothers ‘bomb girl’

GODERICH – Frances Cosens, a longtime avid reader of the Wellington Advertiser, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and five generations of her family on Feb. 3.

Cosens was born in a farmhouse near Drayton, and lived most of her life in the Moorefield/Drayton area. Along with her husband Sheldon, she raised four children while running a successful farming operation.

During World War II, Cosens joined the war effort as a “bomb girl” at Beatty Brothers in Fergus, packing ammunition.

She has 11 grandchildren, 15 great children, and a great-great grandson.

After retiring from farming, Frances and Sheldon moved to Bayfield. Frances now lives at Harbour Hill Retirement in Goderich, where her friends still bring her copies of the Wellington Advertiser.
