Four people named to Close to Home group

The first task for a new four-member advisory group will be assisting in the hiring of a health services coordinator for the Close to Home program.

“I feel it would be in the municipality’s best interest to involve members of the community who may bring some ideas and feedback to the table,” Clerk patty Sinnamon told council on July 8.

Sinnamon and Mayor John Green had previously discussed a possible committee, and last week Sinnamon presented the following four names for council’s consideration:

– Shirley Borges, of the Minto-Mapleton Family Health team;

– Deborah Whale, who has been involved with the VON board;

– Kay Ayres, who has had first hand experience with Alzheimer’s patients; and

– Nancy Thurston, who has been involved with the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health Unit for a number of years.

“These people, I believe, would serve the municipality well in an advisory capacity to the Close to Home program,” Sinnamon said, adding she hopes to hire the coordinator by mid-August.

Councillors unanimously approved a two-year appointment of the members (Bruce Whale declared a conflict of interest because his wife is one of the appointees).
