Fergus Lions kick off annual toy drive

The Fergus Lions Club has officially launched its annual toy drive.

Lions members were at Reliable Motors in Fergus on Nov. 17 to donate toys and to present the Centre Wellington Food Bank with a donation of $2,000. Anyone wanting to donate toys can drop them off at Reliable Motors up until Dec. 9 or during the Fergus Santa Claus parade on Dec. 5.

“We hope to get enough toys so that the food hamper program has sufficient toys to fill whatever their needs are,” said Lions toy drive coordinator Gary Waterhouse.

In 2014, the Lions filled six trucks with donated toys.

“It gives me a little bit of a chance to give back to the community,” said Waterhouse.

Food bank chair Jackie Andrews said, “We are blessed to have a caring community that is always there to support us.”

Dealer principal Greg McCabe said Reliable Motors has helped out with the toy drove for 17 years.

“We enjoy seeing the people come in and just the small community how everyone supports it,” he said.

The Lions Club welcomes unwrapped toys and gift cards, which are to be in an envelope with the amount written on it.
