Fergus Legion invites community to visit on Sept. 24

It is at this time that the Fergus Legion wishes to give thanks to the local community for supporting the Legion during the Poppy Campaign and the many fundraising events held each year.

“It is with your support to Fergus Legion Branch 275 that we have been able to assist veterans and their spouses with financial assistance, support and comradeship,” Legion representatives stated in a press release.

Two of the newest programs added have been “Leave the Streets Behind” for homeless Veterans and operational stress injuries programs and mental health challenges including PTSD.

The largest donation this year was made to the Red Cross to assist with the Fort McMurray wildlife relief. The Fergus Legion made a donation of $15,000.

Other notable donations that were made to the community include swimming organizations, Centre Wellington Food Bank (Ride Program), Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Big Sisters and Big Brothers, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp. and the Navy League of Canada, Guelph Cadet programs, Belwood Lodge and Camp, Lions Club, Swim to Survive group, synchronized swimming and the Fergus Brass Brand, to name a few.

This year the Legion would like to welcome the public in to see the displays of all the work that the Legion does and how they support the community.

They will have pamphlets and there will be someone on hand who will explain the student bursary and award programs, literary and posterior competitions, track and field opportunities and more.

The Legion encourages the public to plan to visit on Sept. 24 so the members can show them what they are about and answer any questions the public may have.
