A farmers’ market will be tested here with a preliminary list of 10 vendors.
Council approved the idea contained in a March 10 report from tourism, marketing and promotion manager April Marshall. The market will run Fridays from 3 to 8pm, from May 9 to Oct. 10, on King Street in front of the lawn bowling club and Victory Church at the old arena.
Previous efforts to establish a farmers’ market in the township have been unsuccessful.
“… Lack of vendor interest prohibited our ability at the time. In 2013 a group of interested vendors and sponsors came forward and the idea was reborn,” Marshall said in her report to council.
Victory Church will act as a sponsor at the market and provide rest rooms and seating for visitors and vendors.
Farm fresh produce and food will form part of what vendors will offer. Crafts and flowers will also be for sale.
“It is also the intent of the market to be community-oriented, be dynamic, friendly and reflect our community’s personality,” Marshall said.
“The Wellington North Farmers’ Market is therefore open strictly to local and bona fide producer – vendors.”
All vendors must sign that they have read and will abide by the rules of the farmers’ market.
