Elora resident releases book, ‘Nothing Sacred’

ELORA – Elora resident Martin Featherston is releasing his first novel Nothing Sacred May 28, the first installment of the Anywhen Trilogy.

“[It’s] been stuck in my head for years,” said Featherston on the story.

The book is a satirical comedy centering on a newspaper reporter who is appointed as the media liaison to God.

“An uplifting, brain-tickling novel about one man’s spiritual-ish illumination in a world that requires a reboot,” detailed a submitted book summary.

While the book has aspects of philosophy and science, above all Featherston stressed it’s a comedy.

“It’s just a funny book … that’s 99 per cent of it,” he said.

The emphasis on comedy is due to the serious state of the world, said Featherston.

“It’s time to laugh again – to unwind that medicine ball of stress and anxiety we’ve been digesting for years,” Featherston wrote in his submission to the Advertiser.

He estimates the next two books will be released over a span of three years.

Featherston previously had a career as a corporate manger and university lecturer, but after 35 years in the  business world he retired to pursue writing full time.

“I’ve been writing my whole life,” he said.

The story wasn’t originally intended to be a trilogy, he added, but after starting serious work on the idea he’d had in his head for ten years, it turned out one book wasn’t enough.

Featherston’s initial draft had enough material for at least two books, he said. So he and his publisher decided to expand the world.

The book has been picked up by a hybrid publisher  in England called Troubador publishing.

Featherston said he partially aimed his submissions to the UK, as he credits being born in England with his sense of humour that “just pushes the boundaries.”

The book will be released in Europe and North America May 28. It will available on in hardcopy and as an ebook on Amazon and Apple online.
