Elora Farmers Market marks Chinese New Year this weekend

The Elora Farmer’s Market is celebrating the Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dragon with special events planned for Jan. 28.

“We’re celebrating the Year of the Dragon to brighten up winter,” said event organizer Barb Lee.

We hope people will come  check out the tasty and unique treats and colouring and crafts for the kids.”

Lee said that the Dragon is a creature of myth and legend. As a symbol of good fortune and sign of intense power, the Oriental Dragon is regarded as a divine beast. In Eastern philosophy, the Dragon is said to be a deliverer of good fortune and a master of authority. Therefore, those people born in Dragon years are to be honored and respected.

“This is the year of the Water Dragon and that should make 2012 a particularly good year for transport, tourism, services, coal, property and agriculture,” said Lee. “Kung Hei Fat Choi!”

The Elora Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday, 9am to 1 pm inside the Paddock Building at the Grand River Raceway, Wellington Rd 21, Elora.
