Local MPP Liz Sandals says a plan to install electric vehicle charging stations in this region by next spring is “great News for drivers.”
The province is spending $20 million through its Green Investment Fund and working with 24 public and private sector partners to build close to 500 electric vehicle charging stations at over 250 locations.
The seven local charging stations include:
– Guelph social services building, 138 Wyndham St. S.;
– Puslinch library, 29 Brock Rd. S.;
– Arthur library and medical centre, 110 Charles St. E.;
– Arthur Sports complex, 158 Domville St.;
– Clifford community complex, 2 Brown St. S.;
– Harriston Tim Hortons, 182 Elora St.; and
– Mount Forest Sports complex, 850 Princess St.
A July 13 press release from the province states the partnership will create an unprecedented network of public electric vehicle stations in cities, along highways, at workplaces and at other public places across Ontario.
This includes nearly 200 Level 3 charging stations and 300 Level 2 charging stations. The entire network will be in service by March 31, 2017.
“With more public charging stations available, electric vehicle owners can now plan longer trips with more confidence that a charging station is as readily available as a gas station is,” said Sandals in a press release.
In addition to adding the network of stations to the Ontario 511 interactive map, the station location data will be posted on the Ontario Open Data Catalogue.
