Eden Mills Writers Festival to host virtual book club event

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Eden Mills Writers Festival (EMWF) will be hosting a virtual book club event for the debut novel Swimming Back to Trout River by Linda Rui Feng.

LINDA RUI FENG

Swimming Back to Trout River is an exploration of family, art, culture, immigration and love set in China’s Cultural Revolution. The book follows a father’s quest to reunite his family before his daughter’s birthday.

In partnership with Guelph Public Library, an event will be held in the lead up to the main event with the author. The event will operate like a book club where the public can get together online and discuss the book ahead of time in a group led by Ann Yu-Kyung Choi.

After that, a live discussion will be conducted with the book author and the public will have a chance to ask questions about the book.

“We created these to create a sense of connection and community, especially at this point in time when we’re still social distancing,” artistic director Nicola Dufficy said.

“It’s a chance to really discuss what you think of the book ahead of time and then our main event is the event with the author where attendees can listen to the author being interviewed by a host.”

The online event will be held June 24 at 8pm, available to everyone and will be accessible through a Zoom link which will sent by email upon registration for the event.

Free event

The event is free for anyone to attend, however people interested in attending must pre-register before the event. Once registered, individuals will receive the Zoom link to the event. The event includes closed captioning.

Attendees don’t have to read the book ahead of time but EMWF is encouraging people to borrow the book from the library or purchase a copy of it beforehand.

This event is part of a series of free online literary events presented by the EMWF.
