Drinking and driving
WELLINGTON NORTH – On Jan. 19 at about 10:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, outside of Kenilworth .
Police say the officer was notified by the cruiser’s automatic license plate recognition of a vehicle travelling with missing plates.
A 30-year-old from Teeswater was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand for a breath sample, driving with an open container of liquor, driving without insurance, using unauthorized plates and failing to have a permit.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
PUSLINCH – On Jan. 19 at about 11:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 6, south of Morriston.
“The driver did not sustain any reported injuries,” police stated in a press release.
A 41-year-old Niagara Falls man was charged with impaired driving (alcohol and drugs), failure or refusal to comply with demand for a breath sample, careless driving and failing to surrender insurance card. He is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 3.
FERGUS – On Jan. 20 at about 3:15pm, Wellington County OPP officers were monitoring traffic on Parkside Drive East and St. David Street North.
Police say officers “encountered a vehicle suspected of being operated by an impaired driver.”
A 36-year-old Fergus man was charged with driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system. He is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 3.
MAPLETON – On Jan. 24 at about 7:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a complaint about a possible impaired driver whose vehicle was in a ditch on Highway 6.
A 34-year-old Arthur woman was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving over 80mg and driving with an open container of liquor. She is to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 6.
In the above incidents the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
