Downtown Fergus the place to be for Christmas Magic this month

“The Christmas spirit is alive and well in downtown Fergus,” says Fergus BIA chair Jackie Fraser.

“We have everything you need for the holidays from great gifts to magical experiences.  Gifts take on special meaning when they have a good, local story behind them.”

It all kicks off this Friday, Dec. 6, at 7pm with a Christmas tree lighting beside the downtown Fergus Post Office.

Those in attendance are asked to join in Christmas carols with the Centre Wellington Singers and hot apple cider courtesy of Fraberts Fresh Food.

A Fergus tradition, a bagpiper will “pipe on” the lights, of course.

“A big thank you as always to everyone at the Fergus Library and the kids in the children’s programs for creating the Christmas ornaments for our tree,” added Fraser.

“This year we welcome and thank the art teachers and students of James McQueen Public School for also creating ornaments for the tree.  It’s truly a community tree!”

Then on Dec. 7, Santa returns for his parade at 1:30pm.  Presented by the Fergus Lions, Optimist, and Kinsmen Clubs of Fergus, this year’s theme is “A Beary Special Christmas.”  Visitors can enjoy the hospitality of downtown merchants while checking out the floats presented by local businesses, community groups, and of course, Santa himself.

Moonlight Madness shopping night in downtown Fergus is Dec. 13 from 5 to 9pm. Most downtown retailers will be open late with great deals and hospitality that night for any Christmas shopping needs.

The Fergus BIA is a volunteer board of downtown property owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals passionate about the future of downtown Fergus. The BIA derives its income from special tax levies downtown property owners pay in addition to property taxes.
