Dirty business for ‘Loyal to the Soil’ 4H club

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The 4H Loyal to the Soil club held its first meeting on April 8.

After some administrative business, choosing the club president, vice president and press reporter, club members got down to the real business – learning about soil.

“We learned about how soil was made from rocks and twigs and organic materials,” writes press reporter Kelvin Ribey. “And how rocks break down faster with ice.”

Youth also learned about microbes, which are necessary in soil.

“We learned it takes thousands of years to make soils so we need to take care of it,” Ribey said.
