CW Community Foundation awards $7,000 to BBBS, CMHA

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) has awarded $7,000 in grants through the Emergency Community Support Fund.

“Through deep conversations with community leaders, we continue to assess priority needs as they continue to emerge as the pandemic progresses,” said CWCF board chair Randall Howard in a June 1 press release.

The first two grants will help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Centre Wellington (BBSCW) and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) of Waterloo Wellington’s Integrated  Youth Services Network (CMHAWW/IYSN).

The BBBSCW grant enables the organization to deliver an eight-week virtual summer camp for youth in Centre Wellington.  Combined with funding from other sources, the grant helps absorb the additional costs of supplying resource kits and snacks individually to all participants.

The CMHA grant enables the recruitment and promotion of an exciting youth-designed and youth-led B-Together Talk Series focused on helping youth deal with the practical, social and psychological effects of isolation brought about by COVID-19.

Specifically, the funds will be used to promote the program to youth and to recruit and train youth facilitators to extend the program beyond Centre Wellington and to the surrounding area.

The grants announced on June 1 are part of the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), funded by the Government of Canada and administered locally by CWCF.

The ECSF is a $350 million fund that is being implemented with Community Foundations of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross, and United Way Centraide Canada, in partnership with local foundations across the country. Its goal is to provide support to charities and non-profit organizations serving vulnerable Canadians.

CWCF is encouraging organizations servicing Centre Wellington, North Wellington, Minto and Mapleton to apply for grants by going to www.cwcfoundation.ca.

The program closes July 27 or before if all available funding are granted.

The CWCF is reviewing and awarding funding weekly to support projects that help ensure no one is left behind in COVID-19 recovery measures.
