CVC offers limited-time funding for tree planting

MISSISSAUGA – Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) encourages private property owners to take advantage of limited-time funding for tree planting projects.

Landowners can receive a subsidy through Forests Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program. The program covers up to 75 per cent of the cost of planting 750 trees (one acre) or more when they book their spring planting with CVC by Jan. 15, 2020.

“We make it easy for landowners to plant trees. We develop a custom planting plan for each property and do all the work getting the trees in the ground,” said Rod Krick, manager of terrestrial restoration and management at CVC.

“Planting trees is one of the least expensive and most natural ways to build resilience to climate change and leave a legacy for future generations.

“Many private landowners aren’t aware of this funding opportunity through Forests Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program.”

CVC is the local delivery agent of the 50 Million Tree Program, which is supported by subsidies from the Government of Canada.

Through the program, landowners can save an estimated $855 per acre, reducing the cost per seedling from $1.50 to $0.36 depending on the tree species. The program also includes free CVC services to monitor tree health and growth after planting.

Through a separate provincial initiative called the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program, property owners who plant or increase their pre-existing forested area to 10 acres can also reduce their municipal tax rate by 75 per cent.
